The twinning program “Support for the improvement of Agricultural Research in Egypt through the Modernization of the Agricultural Research Center” was completed at the end of 2017 after more than two years of implementation. A closing seminar took place in Cairo last May in the presence of HE Stéphane Romatet, French Ambassador to Egypt and the French and Egyptian project leaders: Hervé Lejeune, Inspector General of Agriculture (CGAAER) and Dr. Abdel Moneim El Banna, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt.
This twinning program, which was aimed at supporting the reform of Egypt’s main agricultural research center (50,000 agents, including 10,000 researchers), had four objectives:
→ to support the reflection for a renewed and more flexible legal framework;
→ to provide the CRA with a strategy and management tools;
→ to develop relations with “stakeholders” (farmers, companies, research, international partners, etc.);
→ to strengthen the training tools and deliver targeted modules;
These two years of collaboration involved a wide variety of experts from different Adecia members and partners. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has mobilized staff from the DGAL and the DGER but also the General Secretariat on issues relating to human resources and communication. The INAO, the Chambers of Agriculture as well as the research organizations that are the CIRAD, IRD or CIHEAM have also contributed to the good implementation of this European collaboration program, in association with Italian and Dutch experts .
